Senate to Vote on MFL Bill As Soon As January 20

On Thursday, January 14, the Senate Forestry Committee passed an amended MFL bill, making it now available for a vote by the full Senate.

Legislators listened as dozens of landowners testified that their ability to receive compensation for recreational use of their MFL land needed to be restored.  The amendment, offered by Senator Tiffany and approved by the Committee, included language previously proposed by Representative Mary Czaja in a separate bill.

WAFO encourages landowners to contact their state senators and ask them for their support of SB 434, as now amended.  Timing is of the essence as it is possible this bill could come before the full Senate on Wednesday, January 20.  To email or call your state senator you can find information at http://maps.legis.wisconsin.gov/#.  A sample message is available for you to personalize.

The Assembly Forestry Committee is expected to hold a hearing on passage of their companion bill in the near future.
