WAFO Requests Joint Finance Committee to balance taxes paid on timber vs. other ag land; rescind ban on leasing MFL land

In a letter to the Joint Finance Committee, WAFO asked for rescinding the ban on leasing of woodlands enrolled in the Managed Forest Law and better balance be found between the property taxes paid on timber lands as compared to those paid on other agricultural lands.  Read the letter.

Very informative and somewhat shocking. Thankyou. I will make a presentation to our QDMA meeting on Tuesday the 17th at the Matteson town hall. You have picked an excellent source (WON)for this cause. I will be in touch with my legislater. We own the largest parcel enrolled CRP (98 acres )planted to spruce and pine,in Waupaca Co. back in1990.

    Thankyou,
    Ricky Luedtke.

As a private land owner (property purchased from my father in 1970 who owned it since 1938) I agree with WAFO that the tax gap between agricultural land and timber land should be greatly reduced. My neighbor that rents her land for pasture pays 10% as much tax as my timber land. Yet, by state law I must pay for half of the fenceing cost. This is a great injustice.

      Walter,
Great to hear from you. We are still working out some bugs on the website so sorry for the delay in a reply.
The Wisconsin Fence Law is another items we have spoken about. There are some other folks also talking to legislators about this issue. Do you have suggestions as to how you think the fence law should be addressed?
